Iconic Ian Schrager teams with MarriottBy Douglas Hanks
Ian Schrager, the iconic New York hotelier who made South Beach's Delano an industry leader, is teaming up with Marriott to create a new hotel brand. Schrager and Marriott said the new brand could land on as many as 100 hotels, and Miami is listed as a probable home for one of the properties.
Marriott will own and run the hotels, with Schrager -- one of the country's most famous hoteliers -- providing the creative concept. Marriott has yet to introduce a ''boutique'' brand to compete with Starwood's W hotels and Intercontinental's Indigo.
Schrager owns the former Riande hotels in South Beach and Miami, and plans on reintroducing them in the next two years, according to his company's website. No word on whether the new Marriott brand might go on those properties.
